The FORD KENYA and Wetangula Presidency struggle

The Ford Kenya Party, also known as the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy-Kenya, is a political party in Kenya. It was founded in 1992 by Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, a prominent figure in Kenyan politics and a former Vice President of Kenya.
The party emerged due to the political reform movement sweeping Kenya in the early 1990s. After years of single-party rule under the Kenya African National Union (KANU demands for democratic reforms and multiparty democracy gained momentum. The Ford Kenya Party was one of the major political parties that emerged during this period to challenge the dominance of KANU.
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, a prominent opposition leader and a former member of KANU, played a key role in mobilizing support for the new party. Odinga had a long political history, serving as Kenya’s first Vice President from 1964 to 1966. He was known for advocating social justice, democracy and inclusive politics.
The Ford Kenya Party positioned itself as a centre-left party advocating for economic reforms, social justice and political inclusivity. It aimed to create a more equitable society by addressing poverty, corruption and unemployment.
In the 1992 general elections, the Ford Kenya Party performed well, winning many parliamentary seats. It formed a coalition government with other opposition parties known as the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC to challenge the long-standing rule of President Daniel Arap Moi and his party KANU.
However, internal divisions and power struggles weakened the party’s unity and effectiveness. In 2002 another opposition coalition, the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC-Kenya was formed to contest the general elections. Ford Kenya, under the leadership of Wamalwa Kijana, joined NARC-Kenya and supported its presidential candidate Mwai Kibaki who eventually won the election and became Kenya’s third President.
Since then, the Ford Kenya Party has remained a significant player in Kenyan politics, although it has faced various challenges and internal divisions. In recent years the party has been led by Moses Wetangula, who has focused on issues such as devolution governance reforms and regional economic integration.
Overall the Ford Kenya Party has played a crucial role in Kenya’s political landscape advocating for democratic reforms, social justice and political inclusivity. While it has experienced ups and downs over the years, it continues to be an influential party in Kenyan politics representing the interests of a significant section of the population.

Moses Wetangula is a prominent Kenyan politician and a member of the Ford Kenya party. He has held various leadership positions within the party, including serving as its party leader.
As the leader of Ford Kenya, Wetangula has played a crucial role in shaping the party’s agenda and direction. He has championed policies that focus on social justice accountability and inclusivity. Wetangula is known for his assertive leadership style and ability to mobilize grassroots support.
Under Wetangula’s leadership, Ford Kenya has been involved in national politics participating in elections and coalition-building efforts. The party has been part of various political alliances and has worked towards advancing its core principles.
However, it’s worth noting that Ford Kenya, like many other political parties in Kenya, has faced internal challenges and divisions. There have been leadership struggles and infighting within the party, which have impacted its unity and effectiveness.
Despite these challenges, Wetangula has remained a strong and resilient leader within Ford Kenya. He has consistently fought for the interests of his constituents and has been an outspoken advocate for democratic principles and good governance in Kenya.
It is important to mention that the political landscape in Kenya is dynamic and subject to change. Therefore the leadership dynamics within Ford Kenya and the role of Moses Wetangula may evolve.
